10th Annual Southern California Edison Golf Classic

Proceeds to support scholarships and campus development

PALM DESERT, Calif. (March 16, 2009) - On Monday April 27, 2009, the Palm Desert Campus of Cal State San Bernardino will hold its 10th Annual Golf Classic at The Classic Club in Palm Desert. The event raises money to support student scholarships and campus development programs.

Registration will begin at 11:00 a.m. with lunch and the tournament itself beginning at 12:30 pm.

The title sponsor is Southern California Edison for the sixth consecutive year. The presenting sponsors include the City of Indio and The Berger Foundation. The tournament will include a full field of thirty-six teams from throughout the Coachella Valley. Other major sponsors include The Gas Company, the cities of Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, La Quinta, Coachella, and Indian Wells, MSA Consulting, Canyon National Bank, Agua Caliente Planning and Development, Time Warner Cable, The Penta Building Group, Desert Healthcare District, The Desert Sun/Gannett Foundation, Noble & Company, LLC, and RBF Consulting. Desert European Motorcars has donated an Audi Q5 as a hole-in-one car and Electric Car Distributors has donated a golf cart for a hole-in-one.

The Golf Classic features The President's Cup, which is presented to the top municipal team (the 2008 winner was The City of Palm Desert.)

Kathy DeRosa, event chairwoman says, "In its 10th year, this tournament is quickly becoming known as one of the best one-day charity events in the Valley. We have an incredible team of over twenty volunteers that have so graciously donated their time to plan a golf tournament that really helps young men and women complete their education."

To date, twenty-seven teams have committed to playing in this year's tournament. Sponsorships are available for $2,500, with team foursomes priced at $1,800. The event includes both a lunch and an awards reception along with special player gifts.
